Chester County to Hold “Night of Light” Honoring Lives Lost to Overdose

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County will participate in International Overdose Awareness Day with a public event, “Night of Light,” on August 27 at the Historic Courthouse in West Chester. The ceremony will honor 68 residents who died from accidental overdoses in 2024, marked by a luminary tribute and local speakers. As part of the initiative, purple pinwheels representing each lost life will be displayed at key county buildings. The effort is part of a larger campaign by the county’s Department of Drug & Alcohol Services to reduce stigma, support recovery, and continue the decline in overdose deaths, which have dropped 20 percent over the past three years.

A Child’s Light to Open New Downingtown Facility With Ribbon Cutting

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Thursday, September 11, A Child’s Light will celebrate the opening of its new location in Downingtown with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community reception. Starting at 5 p.m., the event will offer attendees the opportunity to explore the new space, enjoy light refreshments, and connect with local leaders. The ribbon will be officially cut at 5:30 p.m., marking a milestone for the nonprofit, which focuses on providing therapeutic services to children impacted by trauma. Hosted in partnership with the Exton Region Chamber of Commerce, the event invites the public to learn more about the organization’s work and continued commitment to building a supportive community.
Third Year of Pollinator Gardens in Uwchlan Spurs Vegetable Beds

UWCHLAN TWP — This summer marks the third year of a collaborative gardening effort in Uwchlan Township, where the Heart of Uwchlan volunteers and the Forever Well Garden Group have filled raised beds at the Devon Drive YMCA with native, pollinator-friendly plants. The project has not only drawn monarch butterflies and bees but also sparked joy among daycare children exploring the garden. The success of the initiative has led to the creation of new community vegetable beds nearby, broadening local engagement in sustainable gardening. More information is available on the township's website.
Caln Township to Host Final “Art in the Park” of the Summer
CALN TWP — The final installment of Caln Township’s summer “Art in the Park” series will be held tomorrow evening at Caln Municipal Park, running from 5 to 7 p.m. The event invites residents to participate in paper geese crafting, freestyle drawing and painting, and to create submissions for the township’s 3rd Annual Community Day Art Show. Hosted in collaboration with One For All, the series has provided accessible, family-friendly art activities throughout the summer, fostering creativity and community engagement in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.

Chester County Nonprofit Brings Therapy Within Reach for Children in Crisis
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On the latest episode of Good 2 Know in Chester County” Jenny Leigh sits down with Leslie and Jacquie from “A Child’s Light”
A Child’s Light, a nonprofit based in Chester County, provides trauma-informed therapy to children ages 2 to 18 who have experienced abuse or other severe emotional distress. Founded by Leslie Holt just before the onset of COVID-19, the organization has since matched over 200 children with consistent, long-term mental health care. Therapists work on a sliding scale to allow children to continue treatment for up to a year, and services include equine, art, music, somatic, and talk therapy. The model is cost-effective and scalable, aiming to address a growing mental health crisis affecting tens of thousands of children across the region. A Child’s Light also engages with schools, law enforcement, and local families to raise awareness and remove barriers to care.
