Chester County Commits $2.3 Million to Open Space and Park Projects

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County officials have allocated more than $2.3 million in grants to advance conservation and recreation efforts across 15 projects. The funding, provided through the Preservation Partnership Program, will help municipalities and land trusts protect open spaces, develop trails, and enhance park amenities. Notable projects include conservation easements, habitat restoration, new pickleball courts, an ADA-accessible boat launch, and expanded pedestrian trails. This latest investment continues a decades-long commitment that has preserved over 65,000 acres of land and involved all 73 county municipalities.

The French & Pickering Conservation Trust will receive $246,547 to acquire a farmland conservation easement protecting more than 78 acres in West Vincent Township. Natural Lands has been awarded $289,892 for two initiatives: one to preserve 4.45 acres next to the ChesLen Preserve in Newlin Township, and another to fund habitat restoration at Stroud Preserve in East and West Bradford Townships, including invasive species removal and native plant reintroduction.

Caln Township will also receive $250,000 to develop a section of the Beaver Creek Trail, which includes building a pedestrian bridge connecting Lloyd Park to Downingtown Borough.

CCIU Unveils New Multi-Program Education Center for Early Childhood and Special Ed with Avon Grove SD

WEST GROVE, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit is set to open the Engle Education Center on September 17, a newly renovated campus designed to serve more than 350 students across early childhood and special education programs. The facility will also house Avon Grove School District's new office and bring together several CCIU departments under one roof. With offerings that include Head Start programs, an ABA clinic, and various student support services, the center aims to create a unified environment for collaboration and family engagement. Events leading up to the grand opening include a district-wide tour, a family social, and a visit from The Arc of Chester County.

Community-Led Meadow Project Thrives in Rhondda Neighborhood

EXTON, PA — Uwchlan Township’s Heart of Uwchlan initiative and the Rhondda Homeowners Association have been working together since 2021 to restore native habitat in the Rhondda neighborhood. Now in its third year, the meadow features a vibrant array of native species such as goldenrod, coneflowers, and mountain mint, all attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Planted using a mix from Ernst Seeds, the meadow evolves seasonally with new species coming into bloom. Local volunteers have played a key role in the project’s success, which supports both environmental goals and neighborhood engagement.
