Body Identified from Brandywine Creek Following Weekend Drowning
CHADDS FORD, PA — Sergio Ayala-Vilchis, 21, of Avondale, drowned Sunday while swimming in Brandywine Creek near the Brandywine River Museum. He had been in the water with a woman he met the night before at a Delaware nightclub. While in the middle of the creek, Ayala-Vilchis became overwhelmed by the current and disappeared from view. Emergency crews responded shortly after 11 a.m. and located his body at a depth of eight feet in the creek. The woman, who reached shore safely, cooperated with authorities, who later ruled the death accidental.
Chester County Justice Center Reopens After AC Failure Disrupts Operations

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Justice Center reopened at full capacity Monday following the repair of its air conditioning system, which failed last Tuesday amid high temperatures. The outage, caused by back-to-back failures in both of the building’s chillers, forced judges to relocate to other court facilities and allowed most courthouse employees to work remotely. Those who remained on-site endured indoor temperatures nearing 90 degrees, with only limited relief from portable AC units. County maintenance teams completed repairs by Friday, allowing normal operations to resume this week.
West Chester Honors Lafayette with Historic Walk and Faux Dinner on July 26

WEST CHESTER, PA — In observance of Lafayette Day, West Chester Parks and Recreation and the Chester County Planning Commission are presenting two special events on July 26. A youth-oriented “Walk with Lafayette” at noon will follow Lafayette’s 1825 route through the borough, while a “Lafayette Faux Dinner” at 3 p.m. evokes early-19th-century dining traditions. Both programs complement the existing Town Tours & Village Walks lineup and require advance registration by July 24.
