Hope Garden in Kerr Park Blooms as Tribute to Cancer Survivors

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Hope Garden in Downingtown’s Kerr Park, originally created in 2016 by the Rise Together Foundation, continues to serve as a peaceful space dedicated to local cancer survivors and their families. This spring, volunteers Laura Mikowychok and her father, John, undertook seasonal maintenance and added new annuals in shades of light purple to reflect the color of cancer survivorship. The garden features thriving perennials and a thoughtful design that helps manage stormwater while simplifying care. On June 1, the garden welcomed members of the Rise Together Foundation during National Cancer Survivors Day, underscoring its role as both a community gathering spot and a symbol of hope and resilience.
Brandywine Battlefield Preservation Effort Nears Completion Ahead of America250

THORNBURY TWP — Local preservationists marked a major milestone in the long-term study and protection of the Brandywine Battlefield, the site of the Revolutionary War’s largest land battle. Archaeologist Wade Catts shared new findings and emphasized the ongoing risk posed by development. The Brandywine Battlefield Task Force, active for over 30 years, has broadened its mission to include nearby historic sites associated with the Philadelphia Campaign. As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the event served as both a reflection on past efforts and a call to safeguard the area’s historic terrain for future generations.
STEM Innovation Summer Camps Offer Career Pathways for Local Youth

EXTON, PA — This July, STEM Innovation will host its Summer Career Academies in Exton, offering students ages 10–17 a chance to explore future career paths through interactive camps. The series includes STEM Discovery (ages 10–13), Healthcare Explorers (ages 14–15), and Medical Excursion (ages 15–17), with each program tailored to age-appropriate exposure to fields such as engineering, surgery, nursing, and exercise science. Students will participate in hands-on learning, earn certifications, and connect with professionals in the industry. The camps aim to inspire early interest in STEM and healthcare while providing meaningful social and educational experiences.
Broad Run Park Visitors Asked to Help Keep Area Safe and Clean

WEST BRADFORD TWP — With more families and individuals fishing at Broad Run Park, officials have observed a rise in litter — including dangerous materials like fishing hooks and plastic lines. These pose hazards to both wildlife and park visitors. Authorities are reminding the public to pack out all gear and trash, adopt a “leave no trace” mindset, and refer to guidance from the PA Department of Environmental Protection. Trash receptacles are available throughout the park. The message is clear: keeping Broad Run Park welcoming and safe requires everyone's cooperation.
