Photos Released as Construction Continues in Skelp Level Bridge Work

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Progress continues steadily on the Skelp Level Bridge reconstruction project, which remains on course for a September reopening, assuming no significant delays arise. Recent work has seen the installation of a temporary utility bridge, allowing crews to transfer critical utility lines and dismantle the old bridge. Site preparation has been completed, with the foundation and arch structure of the new bridge now fully in place. Crews are currently focused on installing the headwall and wingwalls, after which backfilling will proceed. Once structural work is complete, permanent relocations of water, sewer, and gas lines will follow. The project continues to advance according to schedule as work progresses through the summer months.

Chester County Food Bank, America250 PA Partner for Pennsylvania Day Service Event

EXTON, PA — On July 18, the Chester County Food Bank will hold a special volunteer event in recognition of National Pennsylvania Day, working alongside America250 PA Chester County. Volunteers can choose from various service opportunities, such as packaging meals, sorting produce, assembling food boxes, or harvesting crops at local farms. The event is part of the America 250 PA initiative, which aims to inspire civic participation as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026. The Chester County Food Bank, which distributes nearly 3.5 million pounds of food annually through a network of over 100 community partners, continues to play a critical role in addressing hunger and food insecurity throughout the county.

Chester County Awarded $2.6 Million in State Housing Funds

HARRISBURG, PA — Chester County has received over $2.6 million in state funding to support affordable housing efforts through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE). In the 74th Legislative District, W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center Inc. and Brandywine Valley Active Aging were awarded a combined $300,000 for case management and homelessness prevention programs. Additional funding was distributed to a variety of local organizations, including the Housing Partnership of Chester County, the Housing Authority of the County of Chester, PA Home of the Sparrow, Safe Harbor, Friends Association, and others. The funds will help provide housing, support services, and stability for residents across the county.

Planning Commission Launches Survey to Improve Trailfinder App

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Planning Commission is working to improve its Trailfinder app and is inviting residents and trail users to provide feedback through a public survey. The Trailfinder app offers detailed information on trails throughout Chester County, including conditions, permitted uses, and amenities. The planned update aims to enhance the app’s functionality and accuracy, making it a more effective tool for outdoor enthusiasts and visitors. The survey is available online at bit.ly/Trails-Survey.
