Chester County Commissioners Celebrate Centenarians at Annual Luncheon

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Department of Aging hosted its annual Centenarian Birthday Luncheon last week, celebrating residents who have reached 100 years of age or older. County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz and a representative of Eric Roe attended the event, recognizing the significant contributions and rich histories of the county’s centenarians, many of whom have participated in the luncheon for multiple years. Commissioners reflected on the value of hearing firsthand accounts of history from these individuals, whose lives span pivotal moments from World War II to present-day Chester County.

Borough Adopts Mobile Parking System Beginning June 16

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Beginning June 16, 2025, Downingtown Borough will adopt the Passport mobile parking app, offering residents and visitors a convenient way to pay for parking using smartphones or online platforms. The app will allow users to enter parking zones, view rates, manage multiple vehicles, and extend sessions remotely. License plate numbers will serve as the basis for enforcement. While existing parking kiosks will continue operating in most zones, the Johnsontown Park and Park Lane lots will be designated for Passport app payments only. The app will also streamline parking ticket payments, with direct links included on issued citations.

PA Turnpike Removing Tollbooths as Open-Road Tolling Expands

UWCHLAN TWP — The Pennsylvania Turnpike is advancing its open-road tolling initiative by removing tollbooths at multiple interchanges, including Valley Forge this summer and Morgantown and Downingtown in 2026. The system enables drivers to pay electronically while maintaining highway speeds, eliminating traditional stop-and-go tolling. Officials anticipate $75 million in combined annual maintenance and operating savings, along with significant environmental benefits such as reduced emissions and a smaller physical footprint. The eastern portion of the Turnpike switched to open-road tolling earlier this year, with full implementation across the system expected by 2028.

New Tot Lot Underway at East Brandywine Community Park

EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — Work has begun on the new Tot Lot at East Brandywine Community Park. The playground will offer a safe play space for young children and is expected to become a popular addition once completed. Photos of the project show steady progress. Once completed, the new playground will add to the park’s amenities and serve as a welcome resource for families in the community.
