Caln Township Forms Environmental Advisory Council to Boost Sustainability

CALN TWP — In response to recommendations from a temporary Sustainability Task Force, Caln Township has established an Environmental Advisory Council to help shape environmental policy. Approved unanimously by the Board of Commissioners, the EAC will consist of up to seven residents tasked with advising on conservation, open space, and sustainability programs. The move positions Caln alongside 34 other Chester County municipalities with similar bodies. Applications to join the council are now open, with public meetings set to begin once a minimum of three members are appointed.
Liberty Trees to Be Planted at Chester County’s Historic Battlefields

MALVERN, PA — To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, Chester County will host Liberty Tree dedication ceremonies on June 3 at the Paoli and Brandywine battlefields. The initiative, part of a broader project by America250PA, involves planting trees descended from the last surviving Liberty Tree at Revolutionary War landmarks across all Pennsylvania counties. These dedications highlight the region’s role in the fight for independence, including the brutal Battle of Paoli and the pivotal Battle of Brandywine. The ceremonies aim to link local history with national ideals of liberty and unity.
Coatesville Man Sentenced for Role in Fatal Street Race in Lancaster on Route 30

Brandon Gentile
LANCASTER, PA — In a negotiated plea deal, Brandon Gentile, 21, of Coatesville, received a two-day prison sentence, one year of house arrest, and seven years of probation for his involvement in a deadly street race on Route 30 in 2023. The crash led to the death of 22-year-old motorcyclist Thomas Hartenstine. Surveillance footage and witness testimony showed Gentile driving at speeds over 125 mph. Although Gentile’s vehicle did not directly strike Hartenstine, authorities determined his reckless driving created the conditions that caused the fatal crash. A search of his vehicle also uncovered an unregistered firearm, marijuana, and other drugs. The plea agreement was made with input from the victim’s family, who wished to avoid a trial.
