WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Borough Council has put a hold on plans to install permanent removable barricades along Gay Street for its Open Air Market. All bids, which included a requirement for Matador-brand barriers, exceeded $1.4 million—well above the borough’s budget. Officials will re-bid the project without specifying the costly UK-made product and may scale back the scope to control costs. Funded in part by a $973,000 county grant tied to the American Rescue Plan Act, the project must be completed by the end of 2026. The borough aims to begin construction by early next year to ensure readiness for the 2026 closure season.
Summer Series Highlights Overlooked Figures in Chester County History

WEST CHESTER, PA — The 31st annual Town Tours & Village Walks will begin June 12 in Chester County, offering ten free public events through August 21 under the theme “Untold Stories.” The summer series explores often-overlooked contributors to the region’s history, from Revolutionary War soldiers and abolitionists to educators and farmers. Each walk is designed to engage participants in the rich, yet sometimes hidden, layers of Chester County’s past. Locations include West Chester Borough, Coatesville, Warwick Township, Pocopson Township, and Historic Yellow Springs.
