Caln Township Teen Honored for Youth Leadership Achievement

WEST CHESTER, PA — Katarina Korkie, a student from Caln Township attending Collegium Charter School, has been recognized by Chester County Commissioners for her selection to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. The commendation, presented by Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe, acknowledges Korkie’s achievement and her role in representing the county and her school at the national event. The conference brings together young leaders from across the country to engage in leadership training and civic learning experiences.
Public Safety Training Campus Graduates Next Class of Firefighters

COATESVILLE, PA — A new group of firefighter cadets has graduated from Chester County’s Public Safety Training Campus, ready to serve in departments across the region. The graduates represent a dozen local fire companies, including those in West Grove, West Chester, Phoenixville, and surrounding areas. Their completion of the training program marks an important step in reinforcing the county’s fire and emergency response teams with newly trained professionals prepared to protect and serve their communities.
Learn to Create a Watershed-Friendly Property at Upcoming BRC Event

POCOPSON TWP — The Brandywine Red Clay Alliance will host a community event on Thursday, May 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Myrick Conservation Center in Pocopson Township. The program will educate residents on BRC’s clean water initiatives and introduce Penn State Extension’s Watershed-Friendly Property Certification, which supports sustainable landscaping and stormwater management. Attendees can tour the site’s stormwater infrastructure, receive native plants to start their own conservation efforts, and sample a local brew—Workhorse Brewing Company’s new Speckled Stream IPA. Registration is required and available online.

NFL Keeps ‘Tush Push’ Play After Close Vote

PHILADELPHIA, PA — At the NFL’s spring meeting in Minneapolis, a proposed ban on the “Tush Push” play did not receive the 24 votes required for adoption. Popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles, the play involves pushing the quarterback forward in short-yardage situations. Supporters of the ban cited safety concerns and the play’s impact on fairness, while others defended it as a valid and legal strategy. Former Eagles center Jason Kelce advocated to keep the play, addressing misconceptions about its risk and effectiveness. With the proposal failing, the play remains in the game for the upcoming season.
