Democratic Mayoral Primary Winner Could Become PA’s First Transgender Mayor

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Erica Deuso secured the Democratic nomination for mayor of Downingtown, defeating former Main Street manager Barry Cassidy with 62% of the vote. If elected in November, she would become Pennsylvania’s first openly transgender mayor. Deuso, who works in the pharmaceutical industry, emphasized cost-saving governance and the LGBTQ and trans community in her campaign. She will face Republican Richard Bryant, a retired cybersecurity expert focused on infrastructure and development. Deuso's win was bolstered by endorsements from the local Democratic Party and the outgoing mayor.

Residents Encouraged to Recycle Campaign Signs

GLENMOORE, PA — Chester County has launched a campaign sign recycling initiative in collaboration with the Planning Commission, Facilities Department, and Keep Chester County Beautiful. Running from May 20 to May 30, the program invites residents to recycle used campaign signs at the Government Services Center, Oaklands Corporate Center, or Springton Manor Farm. This effort underscores the county's dedication to reducing waste and fostering community involvement in sustainability practices.

Dressler Estate to Host Grand Opening at New Downingtown Location

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Dressler Estate, a local cidery known for its small-batch craft ciders, will host a grand opening celebration this weekend to commemorate multiple milestones, including the official launch of its first brick-and-mortar location.

Located at 112 E. Lancaster Avenue, the new space serves as both a bar and production facility, bringing the cidery's operations and retail presence under one roof for the first time. The grand opening, scheduled for Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24, also marks Dressler’s eighth year in business and the one-year anniversary of its “Before & After Party,” a nod to its transition from mobile pop-ups to a permanent venue.

Invasive Species Cleanup Scheduled at Historic Spackman-Davis Farm

CALN TWP — Caln Township will host a volunteer invasive species removal event at the Spackman-Davis Farm on May 20, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Volunteers will work to clear invasive vines, trees, and shrubs from the wooded area behind the farmhouse, helping to protect native plants and prepare the site for the upcoming community picnic. Participants are asked to bring gloves and tools if possible, and the event is best suited for adults and older children.
