Election Day in Chester County: Polls Open from 7am to 8pm

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Election Day arrives in Chester County on Tuesday, May 20, as Pennsylvania holds its primary elections. Residents will have the chance to vote for party nominees in local, state, and national contests. Polls will be open from 7am to 8 pm. Local officials encourage voters to check their designated polling place online ahead of time and plan for potential wait times. Bird Watchers Invited to Morning Walk in West Pikeland, May 24th

WEST PIKELAND TWP — On Saturday, May 24, West Pikeland Township will host a bird-watching event at Pickering Grove Park, offering residents a peaceful and educational start to the weekend. The walk begins at 8 a.m. and will be led by Glenn Wenger, a local birding enthusiast and member of the township’s Environmental Advisory Council.

This springtime outing comes during a vibrant period of both nesting activity and migration, making it an ideal time to observe a variety of species. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, bird guides, or apps like Merlin Bird ID for identification. The walk will run through 10 a.m., with comfortable walking shoes advised for the trail.

Caln Residents Invited to Learn About Township’s Public Works

CALN TWP — In celebration of National Public Works Week, Caln Township is expressing gratitude to the dedicated team behind the maintenance and operations that keep the community running smoothly. The Public Works Department is responsible for everything from road repairs to storm response, snow removal, and holiday preparations.

To help residents better understand the scope of this work, the township has released two behind-the-scenes videos. One highlights how the team prepares for severe weather, and the other offers a tour of the department’s garage facilities. These insights provide a window into the daily tasks that often go unnoticed but are essential to public safety and community life.

Two Men Sentenced For Stray Gunfire Strike in Chester County Home

PENNSBURY TWP — Two 22-year-old men have been sentenced to probation after admitting to recklessly firing guns while drinking in Pennsbury Township last summer, resulting in stray bullets striking a nearby home. The shots, fired at a target, missed and traveled over a quarter mile, damaging the Taylor family's residence and narrowly missing their daughter.

The men, Cory Donavin Johnson and Kevin Thomas Ronayne III, pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person. Their sentence includes three years of probation, $32,000 in restitution for home repairs and counseling, letters of apology, and the forfeiture of any firearms they own.

The Taylors described the night as harrowing and the emotional impact as ongoing. Judge Patrick Carmody described the conduct as dangerously irresponsible, emphasizing that the consequences could have been far worse. Both men expressed remorse and acknowledged the gravity of their actions. The court approved the plea deal with caution, while noting the enduring effects on the victims.
