Caln’s Beloved Farm Picnic Returns with BBQ and Community Spirit

CALN TWP — The Caln Township Historical Commission will host its second annual Spackman-Davis Farm Picnic, offering residents an opportunity to enjoy a day of summer festivities in a historic setting. The free event features lawn games, live music, a silent auction, and what is said to be the longest picnic table in Chester County. While admission is free, space is capped at 150 guests. Attendees can opt for a catered BBQ lunch provided by Cedar Creek Catering for $25, with proceeds supporting the nonprofit Friends of Spackman-Davis Farm. Advance registration is required.

State Grant Brings New Radios to Downingtown Volunteer Firefighters

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Alert Fire Company No. 1 in Downingtown will soon be equipped with new communication gear, following the allocation of state grant funding secured by Senator Carolyn Comitta. The grant, administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, will fund the purchase of 16 portable Kenwood radios. These radios will allow every firefighter to be equipped during emergency calls, addressing a critical need for the all-volunteer organization.

Stabbing in Coatesville Prompts Homicide Investigation

COATESVILLE, PA — Coatesville police are investigating the fatal stabbing of Stephen Johnson, 45, who was attacked late Saturday night on the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway. Authorities say Johnson suffered a single stab wound to the chest and was taken to Paoli Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

The stabbing occurred in a public area where several people were reportedly present at the time. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact Coatesville detectives or the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement seeks to identify a suspect and piece together the sequence of events leading to the attack.

All 4 Paws Rescue Hosts Meet-and-Greet at Sweet Aloha Bowls

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Saturday, May 24, All 4 Paws Rescue invites the community to a dog-friendly meet-and-greet event at Sweet Aloha Bowls in Downingtown from 12 to 2 p.m. The event offers a unique blend of refreshments and rescue advocacy, giving attendees a chance to interact with adoptable dogs and learn more about the organization’s work.

While no adoptions are processed on-site, approved adopters may meet their potential new companion and, if it’s a match, complete the adoption later that day. Those considering adoption or looking to volunteer can ask questions, observe the available dogs, and learn more about how to get involved.

The rescue encourages interested adopters to apply in advance online and to check its Facebook page the evening before the event to see which dogs will be attending. In case of rain, the event will move to Sunday, May 25.
