Visit, Stamp, Repeat: Farmers Market Trail Celebrates Chester County Agriculture

WEST CHESTER, PA — A new initiative from AgConnect, a public-private partnership based in Exton, is linking Chester County’s farmers markets through the 2025 Farmers Market Trail. Shoppers are invited to explore ten different markets and collect stamps at each location. Upon completing the trail, participants receive an “Ag Swag Bag” in appreciation of their support for local agriculture.

The program is both a celebration of the county’s agricultural roots and a practical effort to promote sustainable shopping habits. Products available at the markets include everything from fresh produce and meat to honey, flowers, and locally made beverages. Organizers hope the trail will encourage more residents to shop locally, engage with farmers, and help ensure the long-term viability of Chester County’s farming community.

Trail maps are available at markets or online at www.go-agconnect.org. The promotion ends December 31, 2025.

Minquas EMS Upgrades Ambulance, Ensures Seamless Emergency Response

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Minquas Fire Company No. 2 has initiated a fleet upgrade to enhance its emergency medical services, beginning with a full rechassis of Ambulance A3. The project, in collaboration with Glick Fire Equipment, reflects the organization’s commitment to maintaining high-quality care and equipment for the Downingtown area.

While A3 is being refurbished, a temporary loaner ambulance will be in use. Although it will appear different from the standard Minquas vehicles, it is fully outfitted for emergency response and staffed by the same dedicated professionals.

Minquas EMS has assured the community that there will be no interruption to emergency services during this period. The updated A3 is expected to rejoin the fleet with improved capabilities, underscoring ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen local emergency response.

Chiropractor Found Guilty of Misusing Business Funds; Wife Acquitted

WEST CHESTER, PA — In a case centered on financial misconduct and business betrayal, a Chester County jury has delivered a split verdict in the trial of Joseph and Karen Verna, formerly of West Whiteland. After seven days of testimony and detailed financial records, jurors found Dr. Joseph Verna guilty on multiple theft-related charges, while clearing his wife, Karen, of any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors alleged that Joseph Verna misused over $140,000 in company funds between 2009 and 2019, disguising personal expenses as business-related. These included unauthorized payments to his mother, grocery and household purchases listed as office supplies, and payments for the family’s personal cellphone bills.

Though the prosecution attempted to link Karen Verna to the scheme, the jury found insufficient evidence of her involvement. Defense attorneys argued the case amounted to a civil business dispute with his former partner, Dr. Carl Hiller, rather than criminal conduct.

Flash Floods in West Chester Prompt Emergency Rescues

WEST CHESTER, PA — A sudden burst of intense rainfall on Friday brought flash floods to West Chester, inundating streets and trapping several drivers in their vehicles. Among them was a borough resident who became stranded when water levels quickly rose past his car doors near South Franklin and East Miner Streets.

First responders were dispatched across the borough to perform water rescues, ultimately helping at least five motorists escape floodwaters. Though the storms had been forecast, officials said the speed and severity of the flooding took many by surprise.

Cleanup crews responded quickly once the rain subsided, clearing debris from mud-covered streets and storm drains. Flooding also impacted the first floor of the borough’s municipal building, which was left in need of drying and restoration.
