Teeing Up for a Cure: Kildare’s Golf Event Supports Breakthrough T1D

EXTON, PA — A charity golf event hosted by Kildare’s will take place on Monday, May 19 at Whitford Country Club in Exton, aiming to raise money for Breakthrough T1D, a nonprofit dedicated to researching Type 1 diabetes. The tournament features a shotgun scramble format and includes meals, drinks, and on-course contests like a hole-in-one car giveaway and long-drive challenge.

Sponsorships, ranging from $250 to $5,000, offer promotional benefits and player spots. With millions of Americans expected to be affected by Type 1 diabetes by 2040, the tournament’s goal is to support the search for better treatments and a cure. More info online

CCIU Host Support Staff Job Fair in Downingtown

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit is inviting community members to a county-wide Support Staff Job Fair on Tuesday, May 21, at its Education Service Center in Downingtown. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event seeks to fill vital positions in schools across Chester County, including transportation, food service, instructional support, and maintenance roles.

Organized in partnership with the Chester County Recruiting Consortium, the fair offers an opportunity for both pre-registered attendees and walk-ins to meet with representatives from local school districts. The goal is to strengthen the workforce supporting public schools while offering meaningful employment opportunities to area residents.

Free Trees and Pollinator Talk: Native Species Day Comes to Exton

EXTON, PA — On Sunday, May 18, the Uwchlan Environmental Advisory Council will host a special event at Baird Park to recognize PA Native Species Day. From 1 to 3 p.m., community members can learn about the role of native plants in supporting pollinators and sustaining local ecosystems.

Gardening expert Katharina Henderson will present on how native species have adapted to Pennsylvania’s environment and why their preservation is critical. Attendees can also take home tree saplings and perennial seeds, explore the park’s Nature Learning Trail, and receive materials to begin or expand their own native gardens. The event is free and open to all ages, providing both educational value and hands-on opportunities to support ecological stewardship.

West Bradford Volunteers Clear Invasive Plants at Broad Run Park

WEST BRADFORD TWP — In West Bradford Township, community members and local scouts came together last month for a day of environmental restoration at Broad Run Park. Despite rainy conditions, volunteers helped clear invasive plants including Japanese honeysuckle, bittersweet, and multiflora rose—species that threaten native trees and biodiversity.

The event was part of an ongoing effort to preserve the area’s natural ecosystems and encourage residents to take similar steps in their own yards. The township’s “Preserve & Conserve” page offers tools and information for identifying and removing invasive species. A second cleanup event is planned for the fall, continuing the push to protect local green spaces.
