Chester County to Celebrate Lafayette’s Legacy With Historic Parade and Battlefield Walk

CHADDS FORD, PA — A major historical celebration is set for Saturday, July 26, as Chester County honors the bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette’s return to the United States. The day begins at Thornbury Farm with a walk to Birmingham Hill, where Lafayette was wounded during the Battle of Brandywine. In the afternoon, a parade will move through downtown West Chester, ending at Marshall Square Park—echoing Lafayette’s 1825 visit to the area. Additional programs at the courthouse and a formal ball round out the celebration. The event is part of both a national observance organized by the American Friends of Lafayette and Chester County’s Town Tours and Village Walks. It also serves as a key component of the America250 commemoration, which honors the upcoming 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
West Pikeland to Hold Public Forum on Parks and Trails Plan

WEST PIKELAND TWP — On Tuesday, May 21, at 6 p.m., West Pikeland Township will hold its second public meeting focused on updating its Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Plan. The initiative, developed in partnership with the Chester County Planning Commission, seeks input from township residents on how local parks and open spaces impact their daily lives—and how they might be improved. The meeting offers a chance for community members to share ideas about expanding recreational access, improving trail systems, and preserving open land.
Little League Parade to Close Section of Manor Avenue Saturday

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Borough will temporarily close a section of Manor Avenue on Saturday, May 10, to accommodate the Downingtown West Little League Baseball and Softball Parade. The parade, which begins at St. Joseph’s Church and ends at the Little League fields, will result in the closure of the southbound side of Manor Avenue from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The brief shutdown is intended to ensure the safety of parade participants as they make their way along the route. Motorists are advised to plan for minor delays and consider alternate routes during this time. The parade marks the start of the local youth baseball and softball season, an annual highlight for families in the borough.
Chester County Housing Waitlists Reopen for One Day Only

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County’s Housing Authority will accept new applications for its Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs on May 15—the first such opportunity in over 12 years. The reopening, limited to a nine-hour window from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., allows eligible individuals and families to apply for affordable housing and rental assistance through two federal programs. Public Housing units are located in West Chester, Oxford, and Phoenixville, while the Voucher Program provides subsidies for private market rentals. The Authority is reopening the lists as its current voucher pool nears depletion. Applications will be accepted online through www.haccnet.org, with support available for those needing assistance.

Marsh and Turner Lead Phillies to Comeback Win in Tampa
Stotty sent this one to Clearwooder 😳

The Phillies staged a late-game comeback to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, 7-6, in extra innings on Thursday night. Trailing 5-1 entering the eighth, Bryson Stott’s three-run homer ignited the rally. The game was tied in the ninth after a throwing error by Rays closer Pete Fairbanks led to a run-scoring groundout. In the 10th, Brandon Marsh doubled home the go-ahead run and later scored on Trea Turner’s single. Tampa Bay’s offense, which had jumped out early behind home runs from Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz, couldn’t recover. Matt Strahm closed the game by stranding the tying run in scoring position. The Phillies have now won nine of their last 11 games and handed the Rays their seventh straight home loss.
