Chester County Launches Urgent Effort to Keep Federal Funding

HARRISBURG, PA — Chester County government is taking assertive steps to secure federal funding in the face of recent cutbacks and uncertainty. County Commissioners and executives traveled to Washington, D.C. for meetings with lawmakers and national organizations, hoping to build momentum for protecting funding that underpins services like public health, affordable housing, and workforce development. A $7.3 million cut to epidemiology and disease control programs has raised alarms, and additional reductions remain possible. Even though in 2020 Chester County was listed as the 35th richest county in America, current Democratic leaders feel federal funding is required for county programs.

Spring Events in West Pikeland Highlight Local Ecology and Sustainability

WEST PIKELAND TWP — West Pikeland Township is offering two spring programs to promote environmental awareness and hands-on learning. A bird-watching walk, set for May 24 at Pickering Grove Park, will give residents a chance to observe migratory and nesting birds with guidance from local naturalist Glenn Wenger. Participants are invited to bring binoculars and use bird identification apps. On June 2, Wenger will lead a gardening workshop beginning at the Chester Springs Library and continuing at his home, where he will share insights on creating native flower and vegetable gardens. Both events are part of the township’s broader efforts to promote sustainable practices and community engagement with the environment.

Over 50 Service Providers to Attend Veterans Fair in Malvern

MALVERN, PA — Veterans and their families in Chester County are invited to a comprehensive resource fair on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greencastle Consulting in Malvern. The event, hosted by Chester County Veteran Affairs in collaboration with the Chester County Veterans Advisory Council, will bring together over 50 vendors offering services that include healthcare access, educational benefits, housing assistance, job placement programs, and more.

Coatesville’s Gateway Park to Host Second Annual Halal Food Festival

COATESVILLE, PA — On Saturday, May 10, Gateway Park in Coatesville will welcome families from across the region for the second annual Halal Food Festival, organized by Masjid Ar Rahman. From noon to 6 p.m., over 30 vendors will offer a diverse range of halal-certified dishes, including biryani, Mediterranean grill, halal burgers, and vegetarian options. The event also features a children's play area with inflatable attractions and aims to educate attendees on the broader values of halal living—ranging from ethical finance to modesty and community service. Open to people of all faiths and backgrounds, the festival celebrates cultural exchange, community connection, and inclusive celebration.
