Black Bear Sighting in West Brandywine Prompts Safety Alert

DOWNINGTOWN, PA —A black bear was confirmed in West Brandywine on Monday, following recent sightings in neighboring communities such as West Pottsgrove. Authorities estimate the animal, likely weighing between 300 and 400 pounds, is part of a broader increase in bear activity due to Pennsylvania’s expanding black bear population, now approaching 19,000. While typically shy and unlikely to engage with humans, bears may be drawn to unsecured trash or food left outdoors. Wildlife officials are urging residents to keep pets inside, remove outdoor food sources, and report any sightings to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Trial Begins for Former Chester County Doctor and Wife Accused in $465,000 Theft Case

WEST CHESTER, PA — Jury selection is underway in the trial of the Chester County couple who are accused of diverting close to $465,000 from a chiropractic practice once based in West Whiteland. The alleged theft, discovered through a forensic audit, includes a series of payments covering personal expenses, family stipends, and retail purchases made over a 10-year span. The Doctor had been responsible for the financial management of the practice, which he co-owned. Prosecutors allege the couple used company funds to pay for student loans, credit cards, and utilities, and issued improper payments to relatives. While the couple has denied any wrongdoing, their attorneys have framed the case as a civil business disagreement. The proceedings are expected to continue throughout the week.
