Athletes of All Abilities Shine at Special Olympics Events
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The spirit of inclusion took center stage as Chester County celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Special Olympics with events in Coatesville and Downingtown. In Coatesville, over 1,000 athletes from 12 school districts competed in a wide range of events including running, throwing, and adaptive sports. Meanwhile, Downingtown’s version of the event brought together 270 student athletes from 16 local schools at Kottmeyer Stadium for a festive day of games, cheers, and community-building. The district’s Best Buddies program played a key role, fostering meaningful connections between students of all abilities. With an emphasis on encouragement and inclusion rather than competition, the day highlighted the power of friendship, perseverance, and school spirit.
Chester County Pays Tribute to Firefighters Lost in the Line of Duty

WEST CHESTER, PA — In recognition of International Firefighters Day and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, Chester County’s Historic Courthouse will be illuminated in red. The display serves as part of a nationwide tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty, including those who lost their lives in 2024. The courthouse lighting is part of the “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” initiative, a symbolic gesture embraced by communities across the country to honor the bravery and selflessness of fire service personnel. Residents are encouraged to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who serve on the front lines of emergency response, often at great personal risk.
Caln Township’s Summer Series Returns with Films and Festive Fun

CALN TWP — Caln Township is gearing up for a vibrant summer with its 2025 Summer Series, organized by the township’s Parks & Recreation department. The season will include two outdoor movie nights—Wonka on June 14 and Finding Nemo on July 18—each accompanied by themed pre-show activities. The selections reflect input from residents through a township-wide movie poll.
The series will wrap up in early August with National Night Out, a popular event featuring interactive games, activities for children, and a live performance by Chico’s Vibe. Known for their energetic shows and wide musical repertoire, the band will help close out the season on a festive note.
Storms Prompt Struble Trail Program Delay, But Sheep + Wool Day Still On

UWCHLAN TWP — The upcoming "Life and Times of the Struble Trail" event, originally set for this weekend, has been postponed in response to anticipated stormy weather. Organizers have selected Saturday, June 28 as the new date, with all other event details remaining the same.
Meanwhile, Sheep + Wool Day will proceed as scheduled, as the forecast suggests storms may not arrive until later in the afternoon. Organizers remain optimistic and are preparing for a full morning of activities.
