FarmerJawn Nonprofit Ordered to Stop Fundraising in Pennsylvania
WESTTOWN, PA — Christa Barfield’s nonprofit, the FarmerJawn and Friends Foundation Fund, has been directed to cease all fundraising activities in Pennsylvania after failing to register as a charity or prove exemption eligibility. The cease-and-desist order was issued in September, but the organization continues to request donations through its website. Separately, Barfield and her company, LifeLeaf Organic Farms, owe in sales taxes and penalties. While Barfield has been widely celebrated for promoting urban agriculture and community wellness, this latest development has raised legal and financial concerns around compliance. The state has not yet indicated whether additional enforcement action will follow. Neither Barfield nor the nonprofit’s leadership has commented publicly.
