Downingtown’s Volunteer Firefighters Prepare with Hands-On Drill

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Wednesday, April 2, Downingtown’s volunteer firefighters will participate in a simulated emergency response exercise using vacant homes at the intersection of Brandywine and Jefferson Avenues. The training, which runs from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., will help prepare responders for real-life scenarios in residential settings. No live fire will be used during the session. Residents are welcome to observe the event and learn more about the department’s preparedness efforts.

Food Drive Challenge Kicks Off Between Local Townships


UWCHLAN TWP — Uwchlan Township is participating in a month-long food drive challenge against Upper Uwchlan Township to see which community can collect the most donations for the Chester County Food Bank. Residents are encouraged to drop off canned goods, hygiene items, diapers, and other essentials at the township building at 715 N. Ship Road in Exton, open for donations every day in April from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The drive seeks to rally community spirit and support local families facing food insecurity. Glass containers should be avoided.

Chester County OIC to Host Reentry Awareness Event in Coatesville

COATESVILLE, PA — On Tuesday, April 8, Chester County OIC will hold Walking Free At Last, a reentry awareness event designed to support individuals transitioning back into society after incarceration. Hosted at The Arches in Coatesville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event includes brunch, a screening of a film by local advocate Shuja Moore, and a panel discussion centered on the challenges of reentry and the importance of community support. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with resources, learn from lived experiences, and engage in conversations around social reintegration. Ticket options range from general admission to nonprofit and corporate supporter levels.

Coatesville School Board Approves Furniture Purchases Amid Renovations

COATESVILLE, PA — During its March 25 meeting, the Coatesville Area School Board approved furniture purchases totaling more than $227,000 for two elementary schools undergoing renovations—North Brandywine and Reeceville. The funding, awarded to Education Furniture Solutions LLC, supports broader facility upgrades across the district. Construction is progressing at several locations, including the new Doe Run Elementary School and an annex at North Brandywine. The board also approved funding for an inspection and temporary repairs to North Brandywine’s septic system. The next board meeting will be held on April 8.
