Volunteers Clear Nearly 200 Bags of Trash in Caln Township Cleanup

CALN TWP — Caln Township’s 2025 Community Clean Up Weekend drew 116 volunteers who helped remove 189 bags of trash, 13 tires, and several large or unusual discarded items from public areas. The township’s effort, backed by Midway Grill and supported by local organizations including Cub Scouts Pack 134 and Coatesville’s JROTC unit, marked a successful spring cleanup. Volunteers also prepared for the township's Easter celebration by stuffing eggs for an event later in April. The next cleanup is scheduled for April 12 along North Bailey Road.
2024 Non-residential Construction Report Released

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Planning Commission reported a slight uptick in non-residential development in 2024, adding more than 1.1 million square feet across the county. While the number of projects fell from 44 in 2023 to 34 in 2024, the average project size grew. Institutional and commercial developments led the way, with more than 868,000 square feet combined. East Whiteland, West Fallowfield, and West Goshen townships saw the highest levels of new construction. Four major projects each surpassed 100,000 square feet, including two schools and a self-storage facility. Overall, the numbers reflect steady growth, maintaining a relatively consistent pace since 2016. Read more here
How Chester County’s Iron Industry Forged a Transportation Network

POTTSTOWN, PA — On April 5, Chester County residents can explore a lesser-known chapter of local history at Warwick County Park. The county’s Parks + Preservation department is hosting a program that will examine the role of the iron industry in shaping Chester County’s early infrastructure. Led by historian Dan Graham, the discussion will trace how the industry’s rise in the colonial period led to the creation of vital transportation routes in a region that once lacked a formal road system. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and will take place indoors. Registration is open online.
Downingtown Students Celebrate Shared Values in Annual Unity Day
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On March 30, schools throughout the Downingtown Area School District observed the second annual Unity Day, a districtwide event aimed at fostering a culture of inclusion, empathy, and respect. Students and staff dressed in the district’s colors and took part in a variety of community-building activities, including collaborative art, dances, and team projects. The day was organized by the Department of Student Relations and School Climate and is part of the district’s broader mission to create safe, welcoming environments for all students. Now in its second year, Unity Day reflects the district’s commitment to nurturing student well-being and preparing young people to lead with compassion and understanding.
