Free Workshop Explores Eco-Friendly Stormwater Solutions

AVONDALE, PA — As stormwater challenges grow in Southeastern Pennsylvania, a free workshop hosted by the Stroud Water Research Center on April 2 will offer residents tools to manage runoff using environmentally friendly techniques. Led by Green Weaver Landscapes, the event will explore sustainable landscaping methods such as rain gardens and native plantings, which can reduce flooding, prevent erosion, and improve water quality. The session begins at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP. Aimed at homeowners, landscapers, and anyone interested in sustainable land care, the program highlights how ecological solutions can benefit both individual properties and the larger community.

Chester County Man Convicted in Triple Murder Case

WEST CHESTER, PA — Mamadou Kallie, 26, of Coatesville, was convicted Friday of three counts of first-degree murder for the 2022 killings of two women—both of whom he had been romantically involved with—and an unborn child. The victims, Tiara Rodriguez-Diaz and Kimberly Ortiz-Zayas, were shot as they attempted to distance themselves from Kallie following a confrontation about his infidelity. Ortiz-Zayas was pregnant at the time, and a toddler belonging to Kallie and Rodriguez-Diaz was in the car but survived.

Kallie had denied the killings, telling jurors a story about masked attackers, which prosecutors discredited as untrue. The trial included extensive evidence and witness testimony, including surveillance footage, forensic analysis, and statements Kallie allegedly made in the aftermath of the shootings.

The jury deliberated for roughly two and a half hours before delivering the verdict. The death penalty was taken off the table at the request of the victims’ families, and Kallie now faces mandatory life sentences without parole. Sentencing is expected to determine whether those sentences will run consecutively.
