DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Ansh Gandhi, a 12th-grade student at Downingtown STEM Academy, will represent Pennsylvania at the DECA National Competition, a major academic event for students pursuing careers in business. Gandhi, who is blind, reached this level just one year after learning braille and mastering tools like screen readers and refreshable braille displays. He was the only blind competitor among more than 3,700 participants at the state level. His success highlights the impact of the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Vision Support program, which offers specialized instruction for students with visual impairments.

Authorities Search for Person of Interest After Two Fires in West Grove

WEST GROVE, PA — Police in Chester County are investigating two fires that erupted within 20 minutes of each other in West Grove Borough on Saturday night. The first fire was reported in an occupied residence on East Evergreen Street, followed shortly by a second at a nearby chapel. Though no one was injured, multiple residents were evacuated, and the suspicious timing of the incidents has drawn concern. Authorities have released images of a man seen near both scenes and are asking for public help in identifying him. The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fires, though no accelerant has been confirmed, and there is no established motive. A third fire occurred on the same street weeks earlier, but officials do not believe it’s connected.

CTC of Greater Downingtown Launches 5th Annual Student Video Challenge

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Communities That Care of Greater Downingtown is hosting its 5th annual Youth Video Contest, encouraging students in grades 7–12 to create short videos based on the theme “A Teen in Today’s World.” The contest highlights mental health, substance use prevention, and the realities of student life, aiming to amplify youth voices and celebrate positive trends in the community. Data from the Pennsylvania Youth Survey indicates that most students in the district are not using drugs or alcohol—something the contest hopes to affirm through creative storytelling. Submissions are due by April 11. Prizes include up to $250 in cash and tickets to a Phillies game for the first-place winner.
