EXTON, PA — This September, the Chester County Food Bank is observing Hunger Action Month with a monthlong food collection drive aimed at gathering 17,000 pounds of donations — a number chosen to honor the organization's 17th year of service. Residents are encouraged to donate nonperishable staples throughout September, with canned beans, canned chicken, canned fruit, canned tuna, and canned vegetables identified as the most urgently needed items. COATESVILLE, PA — Coatesville Area Senior High School is set to house Chester County's first school-based community health center, a year-round facility run by Union Community Care that will serve students, staff, and the broader community. The center, made possible by $100,000 in state funding secured by state Senator Carolyn Comitta, will offer same-day care, well-child visits, physicals, vaccinations, chronic disease management, and women's health services, with connections to dental, vision, imaging, behavioral health, and prenatal care. As a federally qualified health center, Union Community Care serves patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay, using a sliding fee scale based on income. School and health officials describe the partnership as a way to remove barriers to care and support long-term community health, arriving at a time when many Pennsylvanians are losing coverage due to expiring ACA subsidies and Medicaid cuts. Nationally, there are between 3,900 and 4,500 school-based health centers, including about 30 in Pennsylvania.

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Resources Council has opened its annual Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest, inviting amateur photographers statewide to capture eye-catching or unusual images of litter to raise awareness about its impact on public health, scenic beauty, property values, and the environment.
