Rt 30 Bypass To See Sinkhole Repairs Monday Between 9am-3pm

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Drivers on rt 30 should prepare for disruptions on Monday, March 17, as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation conducts sinkhole repairs on the Coatesville-Downingtown Bypass. A left lane closure will be in place in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the rt 322 East (Horseshoe Pike) ramp and the Business 30 West (Lancaster Avenue) ramp.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time due to anticipated delays. The repairs are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Caln Community Helps Repair Riparian Buffer

CALN TWP — Volunteers in Caln Township gathered over the weekend for a tree maintenance event aimed at preserving the local riparian buffer. With shovels, gloves, and a shared sense of purpose, community members worked efficiently, finishing the necessary upkeep faster than expected. Their efforts didn’t stop there—many stayed to help clear debris from the stream, further enhancing the area’s natural ecosystem.

Downingtown Students Can Win Cash Prizes in Annual Hopewell Furnace Essay Contest

ELVERSON, PA — Students in grades 6 through 12 have the chance to take part in the Hopewell Furnace Independence Day Writing Contest, an annual competition celebrating historical reflection and creative expression. Organized by the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and the Friends of Hopewell Furnace, the contest is open to students from local school districts, including Downingtown and Coatesville.
This year’s theme, What is your pursuit of happiness?, challenges students to explore personal and historical interpretations of a fundamental American ideal. Submissions must be 500 words or fewer for high school students and 300 words or fewer for middle school students.
A panel of judges will award cash prizes to the top three essays in each age group, with the first-place winners receiving $125. In addition to the prize money, the top three writers in each category will be invited to read their essays during Hopewell Furnace’s annual Independence Day program on July 4. Essays must be submitted by April 20 via email or mail. More information is available on the Hopewell Furnace website.
Downingtown Country Club Hosts Charity Golf Event for Animal Rescue

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Golf enthusiasts and animal advocates will have the chance to come together for a day of sport and philanthropy at Puttin’ Fore Paws, a charity golf event hosted at the Downingtown Country Club. The outing, benefiting Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue, promises a full agenda of activities designed to entertain while raising funds for animal care.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue, an organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need. Golfers and supporters are encouraged to secure their tickets and help make a difference. Click here for event details and to register online.
