Sinkhole on Route 30 Bypass Causes Major Delays

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — As you probably know by now, the sinkhole on the rt 30 bypass opened back up, and construction caused delays throughout the weekend. Specifically Westbound traffic was backed up around the 282/Creed rd exit in Downingtown.

As of Sunday, PennDOT crews are still working to repair the sinkhole, causing lane restrictions and major traffic delays in both directions. The issue was first reported on Saturday, and congestion was expected to persist through at least Sunday afternoon. Officials have not provided a definitive timeline for when the road will be fully restored. Drivers in the area are encouraged to find alternate routes to avoid prolonged delays.

West Chester Water Contamination Sparks Legal Fight Over PFAS Cleanup

WEST CHESTER, PA — Aqua Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against Arkema Inc., accusing the chemical manufacturer of polluting the Goose Creek watershed in West Chester with PFAS, a class of toxic chemicals linked to serious health risks. The company alleges Arkema’s negligence led to contamination of drinking water supplied to thousands of residents in Chester and Delaware counties.

PFAS, commonly used in consumer products and industrial applications, are known for their persistence in the environment and the human body. Concerns over their potential health effects, including cancer, have driven stricter regulations and numerous legal actions against chemical manufacturers.

Aqua claims it has already spent millions of dollars testing and filtering PFAS from its water supply and is seeking reimbursement for those costs. The lawsuit comes as federal regulations push water providers to reduce PFAS levels, an effort that requires expensive filtration systems. While the government has allocated funding for cleanup efforts, providers argue that more resources are needed and that polluters should bear financial responsibility.

Arkema has yet to respond to the allegations. Full story and details at WHYY.org

Downingtown Police Welcome Two New Officers to the Force

Kyle Cassidy, a graduate of the Delaware County Police Academy and a former West Chester University police officer, and Matthew Shannon, a Montgomery County Police Academy graduate with experience in Falls Township, were sworn in at the March Borough Council meeting.

Springton Manor Invites Community to Help with Pond Stocking

GLENMOORE, PA — Chester County’s Springton Manor Farm is calling on volunteers to help stock its farm pond with trout on Wednesday, March 26. The event offers a chance for community members to play a direct role in maintaining the pond’s ecosystem by carrying fish from the drop-off site to the water.

Participants should be prepared for wet and muddy conditions, as the stocking process requires hands-on involvement. Parking will be available in the lower lot, with a short walk to the pond.

The specific time for the stocking will be determined in the days leading up to the event, depending on fish delivery schedules and park conditions. Volunteers who sign up in advance will receive updates as the date approaches.
