Chicken Guts Spill Creates Traffic Chaos on Route 30 Bypass

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — A significant traffic disruption hit the westbound Route 30 Bypass in Caln Township Thursday evening after a spill left a 150-foot stretch of roadway covered in chicken remains just before the Route 322 exit. Emergency responders arrived around 7:10 p.m. and immediately shut down lanes at Route 282 and Route 113 as cleanup efforts began.

Fire crews requested additional assistance to wash down the roadway and awaited a sand truck to help improve traction. Meanwhile, traffic was completely halted, with some drivers stranded for more than an hour. At 8:37 p.m., officials began slowly allowing vehicles to pass on the left shoulder, though the roadway remained hazardous.

By 9 p.m., PennDOT had assumed control of the scene, and a sand truck arrived to aid in the final stages of cleanup. While the cause of the spill has not been confirmed, the incident further complicated an already congested stretch of highway, adding to frustrations over frequent disruptions in the area.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Earlier yesterday, A high-speed crash involving five vehicles halted traffic on the westbound Route 30 Bypass in Downingtown on Thursday evening. The accident, reported around 5 p.m. between Norwood Road and Route 113, left all lanes blocked as emergency responders arrived. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with detours through residential areas and a growing backlog of stranded motorists.

Authorities believe the crash was caused by a single vehicle traveling at high speed, striking multiple cars. Two individuals were evaluated by EMS, though no serious injuries were reported. By 5:40 p.m., one lane had reopened, and by 6:21 p.m., traffic was fully restored.

Residents near the crash site reported hearing a loud impact, while others saw a vehicle driving down the shoulder at unsafe speeds moments before the collision. The accident has reignited discussions about traffic enforcement along the bypass, where reckless driving has been a persistent issue.

A similar accident happened the day before, around the same time close to the same section of the bypass.
