Uwchlan Man Sentenced to up to Eight Years for Stabbing Neighbor
UWCHLAN TWP — A years-long feud between two Chester County neighbors ended in violence, leading to a prison sentence for one and serious injuries for the other. Glenn Phillips, 56, of Uwchlan, was sentenced to four to eight years in state prison for stabbing his neighbor, Charles Oswald, during a confrontation in June 2023.
The dispute stemmed from ongoing disagreements over a fence and trees between their properties. Phillips, who had no prior criminal record, claimed self-defense, arguing that Oswald initiated the fight by punching him. A jury rejected that defense, convicting him of aggravated assault and related charges while acquitting him of attempted murder.
Prosecutors had pushed for a longer sentence, calling the attack “exceedingly violent,” while the defense requested time served, citing Phillips' clean record. The judge ultimately ruled in favor of a prison term, ordering Phillips into custody immediately after the verdict.
Chester County Hall of Fame to Recognize Longwood Gardens Leader
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Paul B. Redman, the longtime leader of Longwood Gardens, will be honored with induction into the Chester County Hall of Fame in recognition of his transformative impact on one of the region’s most beloved landmarks. The Chester County Economic Development Council will present the award on May 28, 2025, at Longwood Gardens, marking the first time the ceremony will be held there.
Since becoming president and CEO in 2006, Redman has led a period of unprecedented growth, doubling visitor numbers to 1.6 million annually and overseeing $500 million in improvements. His leadership has helped Longwood become not only a major horticultural destination but also a key economic driver for the county. The latest expansion, a $250 million project, has reimagined key areas of the gardens and strengthened its role as a cultural institution.
Beyond his work at Longwood, Redman has been an advocate for the horticulture industry, serving on multiple boards and leading initiatives to promote careers in the field. His induction into the Hall of Fame places him among other influential business leaders who have shaped Chester County’s economic and cultural landscape.
