WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester’s Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center is rallying the community for a special fundraising event, Artists Unite for LA, on February 28. The benefit will feature a lineup of local talent, including dance performances, improv comedy, live music, and theatrical productions, all in support of wildfire relief efforts in California.
Proceeds will go to the California Fire Foundation, a nonprofit providing financial assistance to displaced families, first responders, and communities impacted by wildfires. The lineup includes performances by Harrison Dance Studios, the Uptown Singers, Better than Bacon, and local musicians such as Liz Watkins and Stephen Lyons.
With tickets priced at $20 for adults and $15 for students, attendees will not only enjoy an evening of entertainment but also contribute to an urgent cause. More details and ticket purchases are available at uptownwestchester.org.
Caln Township Calls on Residents for Annual Community Clean-Up

CALN TWP — Caln Township’s annual Community Clean-Up Weekend is returning, offering residents the chance to give back by sprucing up parks, streets, and public spaces. Organized by the township’s Parks and Recreation Board and sponsored by Midway Grill, the initiative welcomes both individuals and groups.
Volunteers will be provided with cleanup supplies and a small token of appreciation from the sponsor. The event is an opportunity for neighbors to come together and make a visible impact in the community. Organizers are aiming for record participation this year and encourage residents to sign up for a time slot online.
Kate Gundersen-Thorpe Takes the Helm at French Creek, Marsh Creek Parks

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Kate Gundersen-Thorpe has been appointed as the new park operations manager for the French Creek State Park Complex, which includes French Creek and Marsh Creek state parks. She brings extensive experience, having previously managed Neshaminy State Park and held several positions within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Covering thousands of acres, the parks provide hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities to visitors across the region. French Creek boasts one of the largest preserved forests in the Mid-Atlantic, while Marsh Creek’s lake serves as a hub for boating and fishing.
Gundersen-Thorpe replaces James Wassell, who has taken on a broader leadership role within Pennsylvania’s state park system. With the state emphasizing outdoor recreation as part of its tourism strategy, the new leadership aims to enhance the visitor experience while maintaining the parks' natural resources.

Warwick County Park Deploys Tick Control Stations to Fight Lyme Disease
POTTSTOWN, PA — Chester County’s Warwick County Park is deploying a new tool in the fight against Lyme disease: tick control stations. These structures, designed to reduce tick populations, dispense corn to attract deer and other mammals. As the animals feed, they brush against treated fabric rollers, effectively ridding them of ticks and reducing the risk of disease transmission.
Pennsylvania has one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the country, making tick management a priority for local parks. By implementing these stations, Chester County aims to create a healthier environment for both wildlife and visitors.
