Borough Council Announces Vacancy Following Dr. Howard’s Resignation

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Borough Council has announced that Dr. Angela Howard, who represents the East Ward, will be stepping down from her position. The council expressed gratitude for her efforts and wished her success in her future endeavors.

To fill the vacancy, the council plans to appoint a new East Ward representative to complete the remainder of Dr. Howard’s term. Residents of the East Ward interested in stepping into this role are encouraged to submit a letter or email expressing their interest to Borough Manager Jeffrey A. Smith at [email protected] by January 31, 2025.

Longtime Downingtown Advocate Barry Cassidy Announces Bid for Mayor

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Barry Cassidy, a lifelong Democrat and 25-year Downingtown resident, has entered the race for mayor in the 2025 primary election. With a background in urban development and social justice, Cassidy has led transformative projects in the borough, including the Keystone Opportunity Zone in Johnsontown and downtown revitalization efforts. His platform emphasizes flood mitigation, emergency management, and community enrichment. Cassidy, who holds degrees from West Virginia State University and the London School of Economics, lives in Main Street Village with his wife, Karen McMichael.
