Downingtownā€™s Will Howard Leads Ohio State to Long-Awaited National Title

ATLANTA, GA ā€” Ohio State defeated Notre Dame, 34-23, to capture its first national championship in a decade, thanks largely to Downingtown native Will Howard. After a standout high school career and an eventful tenure at Kansas State, Howard transferred to Ohio State for his final season. He seized the starting quarterback role and led the Buckeyes on a title run, capping a college journey defined by patience, perseverance, and success on the biggest stage.

Will Howard Puts Downingtown on the Map

DOWNINGTOWN, PA ā€” If you live in or are from Downingtown, one thing is certain that you will at some point experience people constantly mispronouncing your town name. A pretty straight-forward name, pronounced exactly as itā€™s written, yet it still seems to trip up otherwise intelligent people. Like a true local, Ohio State QB Will Howard, had to correct a reporter who mispronounced his home town. ā€œThe W isnā€™t silentā€ he said.

From Tagging to Tallying: Pennsylvaniaā€™s Winter Push to Protect Wild Turkeys

KENNETT SQUARE, PA ā€” Wild turkeys have been making regular appearances in Chester Countyā€™s rural regions, providing a timely opportunity for residents to participate in a statewide research project. The Pennsylvania Game Commission is requesting public assistance in pinpointing turkey flocks through March 15. After assessing suitable sites, wildlife crews will trap, tag, and release the birds on the spot. Some will also receive GPS transmitters to track their movements and behavior as part of a comprehensive study that monitors turkey populations across Pennsylvania and neighboring states.

This initiative aims to better understand factors such as nest success, survival rates, and disease prevalenceā€”data that could shape future conservation strategies. The effort is paired with public calls for hunters or anyone who encounters a banded bird to report its band number. The project marks the largest undertaking of its kind by the Game Commission, in collaboration with Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvaniaā€™s Wildlife Futures Program. Access the turkey sightings survey here.

Chamber Seeks Top Business, Nonprofit, and Citizen for 2025 Honor

DOWNINGTOWN, PA ā€” The Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting the public to submit nominations for its upcoming awards, which aim to celebrate the communityā€™s exceptional businesses, nonprofits, and civic-minded residents. Both Chamber members and non-members are welcome to put forward individuals or organizations that demonstrate significant community impact, strong leadership, and lasting contributions to Downingtown.

Nominations are currently being collected online, and the Chamber encourages residents and local professionals to lend their support by identifying worthy candidates. The winners, chosen after a selection process organized by the Chamber, will be recognized during the annual dinner and civic awards ceremony on March 6.
