Chester County to Host Pennsylvania's 250th Anniversary Kickoff

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County will host Pennsylvania's regional kickoff event for the nation's 250th anniversary celebration on January 16 at the West Chester History Center. The gathering will feature the debut of "Forged in Freedom: Chester County at 250," a traveling exhibit exploring the county's historical significance. The afternoon event represents the beginning of statewide programming marking the semiquicentennial. RSVP online here

West Pikeland Wins $232,000 Grant for Accessible Playground

WEST PIKELAND TWP — West Pikeland Township has been awarded a $231,900 state grant to build an accessible playground at Pine Creek Park. The funding from Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, combined with earlier grants and private donations, will allow the township to create a play area designed for residents of all ages and abilities. Community volunteer Ann Toole wrote the successful grant application.

Chamber and Rotary Club Join Forces for Downingtown Networking Event

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce and Thorndale-Downingtown Rotary Club will host their first joint networking event on January 20 at Mother on East Lancaster Avenue. The 5:30 to 7 p.m. social hour aims to bring together members from both organizations for informal networking and relationship-building in a casual setting. Registration is available through the chamber's website.

Chester County Preserves 600th Farm in Three-Decade Conservation Effort

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County's farmland preservation program reached a significant benchmark in 2025, protecting its 600th farm while adding more than 750 acres to its conservation portfolio. The milestone caps 35 years of work since the county launched its easement acquisition initiative in 1990 to protect working agricultural land from development.

The program operates by purchasing permanent conservation easements from willing landowners, restricting future development while allowing the land to remain privately owned and farmed. This approach has proven effective in Chester County, where proximity to Philadelphia and the Main Line has created persistent development pressure on rural properties.
